Richmond security guard accused of shooting boss- Silicon Valley Mercury News, Richmond, CA

Police have arrested a security guard suspected of wounding his supervisor when he fired shots at the Richmond public housing complex where he worked.

 

Facing Budget Shortfall, Minnesota city is latest to contract private security

In a growing trend that we've seen throughout California and other parts of the country in response to growing county and municipal budget shortfalls, the City Council of Foley, Minnesota voted unanimously last night to contract a private security firm to enforce city ordinances and deal with general city nuisances. The deal takes effect on January 1, 2012 and will save the city approximately $200,000 over the year.

We believe this trend speaks volumes to the continual emergence of the private security industry, specifically with efforts over the last 10 years to raise the professionalism of the industry through higher screening and training standards. What do you think though. Riverside Security Officer Opens Fire After Being Hit By Car- NBC, Riverside, CA

A security officer at a local hospital opened fire Thursday night after a driverallegedly tried to run him over.

Man injured after altercation with store’s security guards- Vallejo Times-Herald, Vallejo, CA

A 30-year-old man suffered injuries after a store's security guards stopped him from stealing groceries Thursday night, police said. At about 6:45 p.m., the man allegedly attempted to steal a package of meat and a bottle of rum from Raley's, 4300 Sonoma Boulevard. When the security guards confronted him in the parking lot, they got into an altercation, police said.

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington was closed today after a security officer used chemical spray to thwart the assault of another when about 150 people converged to protest the use of drones.

Security guard dead, 5 others wounded in shootings across Chicago- Chicago Tribune, Chicago, IL

A security guard was killed on the West Side and at least five others wounded Thursday night in separate South Side shootings, according to police. The 51-year-old guard was shot about 9:40 p.m. in the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot grocery store in which he worked in the 5500 block of West North Avenue in the North Austin neighborhood, authorities said.

Editorial: Cooperating on security guard licenses should be no-brainer

Surely, our city and county leaders are not so turf-minded that they can't find a way to cooperate on this one little area that could hurt workers making low wages and who could be forced to pay two different licensing fees just for the right to hold a barely-above-minimum-wage job.
