In California, if a particular workers' compensation law is repealed while the litigation is pending, all pending actions are stopped, and the reviewing court must dispose of the case under the law in force when its decision is rendered.
Case name:Beverly Hilton Hotel, Hilton Hotels Corp. v. Workers' Compensation Appeal Board and Samson Boganim, No. B212205 (Cal. Ct. App. 08/26/09).

Ruling: The California Court of Appeal annulled a decision of the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board granting a hotel security officer entitlement to vocational rehabilitation benefits.

Suspect in Security Guard's Hit and Run Appears in Court- News 10, Sacramento, CA

Nightlife in Sacramento's Midtown neighborhood was a bit more subdued Friday, three days after the hit and run death of a beloved nightclub security guard. The man accused in he death of the midtown Sacramento security guard had his first court appearance Friday.

But that's exactly what authorities say Weisz did Wednesday morning when he allegedly ran down 64-year-old security guard Leroy Fisher with his car after being ejected from "Badlands," a popular gay Sacramento nightclub. Fisher died from the hit-and-run incident; Weisz and a friend later surrendered to authorities in San Francisco. Authorities say Fisher's death was not accidental.

 

School Security Guard Sought after Threats- WNEP, PA

A security guard threatened to shoot up a school in Schuylkill County and now police are searching for the man. Shenandoah police and Schuylkill County detectives entered the home of Carlos Clintron Friday. Court papers state he has admitted writing threats aimed at the Shenandoah Valley School District and a school principal. He was a security guard at the school.

A Brink's security guard was shot while making a delivery in Dania Beach Tuesday morning. Witnesses say a Brink's security guard was shot Tuesday while making a delivery in Dania Beach. The incident occurred in the 3400 block of Southwest 26th Terrace just after 11 a.m. Dania Beach Fire-Rescue took one man to Broward General Medical Center. He was alert and conscious, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
