BSIS announces upcoming advisory committee meeting

On Thursday, May 15, the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) will hold a meeting of the Chief’s Advisory Committee from 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.  The committee, made up of representatives from private security, alarm and locksmith companies, repossessor agencies and private investigators, was established by Chief Paul Johnson in 2006 to create a forum to discuss the challenges and obstacles facing the mentioned industries.

CALSAGA has taken an active role on the committee, as President Mark Miller has represented the private security since the committee inception.  We applaud BSIS for holding these meetings and think it goes a long way in sharing information between industries and disseminating information from BSIS out to the public.

The meeting details haven’t been posted on the BSIS website yet, but below we have included an agenda and location:

Security guards are trying to organize a union on the Strip, and the move has brought a strong response from casino giant MGM Mirage. The guards are seeking representation by the International Union of Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America. They complain of inadequate training and unsafe staffing levels, low pay and other ills. The casinos are fighting back, claiming that guards will get a better deal if they don’t organize. That argument worked 13 years ago, the last time guards mounted a serious organizing effort.
