The Freeport village board approved almost $10,000 to pay a private security firm to protect Mayor Andrew Hardwick for two weeks after his inauguration in April.  The board voted unanimously last month to approve payments of up to $9,565.66 to a Mineola-based company for services rendered from April 6 - the day Hardwick and two trustees were sworn in - through April 19, records show.
